چکیده

Associative desorption of hydrogen at edges and facets on Pt nano-particles was studied using density functional theory. The goal was to identify catalytically active sites on Pt nano-particles for the hydrogen evolution reaction. Since nano-particles used in catalysis typically contain over a thousand atoms, calculations of whole particles are too demanding and the adsorption sites were instead modeled by periodic face centered cubic slabs representing an array of edges between two (111) micro-facets or edges between (111) and (100) micro-facets. The width of the facets in the periodic representations was systematically increased to reach converged results for binding and activation energy. For maximum hydrogen coverage, edges between (111) micro-facets were found to be several orders of magnitude more active than edges between (100) and (111) micro-facets or flat terraces. Unlike the missing row Pt(110)-(2x1) surface, which has sometimes been used as a simple model for edges between (111) micro-facets, the converged edge model does not show the recently reported reentrant behavior in desorption mechanism [Gudmundsdóttir et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 108, 156101 (2012)]. Egill Skúlason Science Institute of the University of Iceland, VR-III, 107 Reykjav́ık, Iceland Avan A. Enhanced Catalytic Activity of Pt-NdFeO3 Nanoparticles Supported on Polyaniline-Chitosan Composite Towards Methanol Electro-Oxidation Reaction

In this work, NdFeO3 nanoparticles were synthesized through a simple co-precipitation method. The formation of NdFeO3 particles was verified by X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer, and transmission electron microscopy analysis. Polyaniline and chitosan were employed as proper support for production of metal nanoparticles. Novel Pt...

Ru-Pt core-shell nanoparticles for preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide in hydrogen.

Most of the world's hydrogen supply is currently obtained by reforming hydrocarbons. 'Reformate' hydrogen contains significant quantities of CO that poison current hydrogen fuel-cell devices. Catalysts are needed to remove CO from hydrogen through selective oxidation. Here, we report first-principles-guided synthesis of a nanoparticle catalyst comprising a Ru core covered with an approximately ...

Effect of MgAl2O4 catalyst support synthesis method on the catalytic activity of nickel Nano catalyst in reverse water gas shift reaction

In this research effect of synthesis method of magnesium aluminate as support of Ni catalysts at the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction was evaluated. The RWGS reaction is applied in Carbon Dioxide Hydrogenation to Form Methanol via a Reverse Water-Gas Shift Reaction (CAMERE) process for the transformation of CO2 into methanol. The MgAl2O4 supports were prepared by sol-gel (M1), surfactant...

Pt-Au alloying at the nanoscale.

The formation of nanosized alloys between a pair of elements, which are largely immiscible in bulk, is examined in the archetypical case of Pt and Au. Element specific resonant high-energy X-ray diffraction experiments coupled to atomic pair distribution functions analysis and computer simulations prove the formation of Pt-Au alloys in particles less than 10 nm in size. In the alloys, Au-Au and...

Enhanced Electrocatalytic Activity of Pt-M (M= Co, Fe) Chitosan Supported Catalysts for Ethanol Electrooxidation in Fuel Cells

Here, metal nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical reduction of the corresponding metal salts in the presence of chitosan polymer. Binary and ternary metallic-chitosan Pt-Fe-CH, Pt-Co-CH and Pt-Fe-Co-CH nanocomposites were prepared. Transmission electron microscopy images and UV–Vis spectra of the nanocomposites confirmed the presence of the metal nanoparticles. The electrocatalytic activit...
